1. One Big Thing: GC Airport reconnects with HK
By Marshall Hall
What’s Happening
After a six-year hiatus, the Gold Coast Airport is reconnecting with Hong Kong, with Hong Kong Airlines launching a seasonal service.
Why It Matters
The route will provide around 6,000 inbound seats to the Gold Coast, marking the airline’s first Australian connection since Covid.
Importantly, it strengthens ties with key Asian markets and could pave the way for more permanent services.
By the Numbers
4 flights per week will kick off the reconnected route
6000 seats over the five weeks will be made available to purchase
6 years since the last direct flight from Greater China to the GC
Local Impact
The return of this direct route is a significant boost for the Gold Coast and Queensland tourism, especially during the peak festive season.
Queensland Tourism Minister Michael Healy anticipates a festive season boost for local businesses, a key step towards building an $11 billion international visitor economy by the 2032 Games.
