As Winter Nears, Queensland Drivers Urged to Prioritise Vehicle Lighting Checks
ASAP Roadworthys Highlights Increase in Failed Inspections Due to Faulty Lights
Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia – May 14, 2024 – As the days grow shorter and Queensland braces for winter, drivers are urged to make sure their vehicles have operational lights. Arzu Subritzky, National Manager of ASAP Roadworthys, expresses concern over the rising number of failed safety certificate inspections caused by defective exterior car lighting.
"In the past month, nearly half of all failed safety certificate inspections were attributed to issues with exterior lighting, which includes headlights, brake lights, tail lights, indicator lights, and even licence plate illumination," cautioned Subritzky.
Data collected by ASAP Roadworthy in the first quarter of 2024 has revealed a worrying rise in the number of non-functional lighting components within vehicles. Lighting issues are detected in 20.19% of vehicles failing safety certificate inspections. This is a 6.4% significant increase, compared to the same period last year.
As daylight diminishes, ensuring all lights are in proper working order becomes crucial for road safety. Neglecting vehicle lighting checks can have serious consequences, risking the safety of drivers, passengers, and other road users.
"With longer periods of darkness, it’s vital for our community to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to prioritise safety on the roads," emphasised Subritzky.
Lighting is essential for visibility, especially during dawn and dusk when natural light is limited. Inadequate lighting often plays a significant role in road accidents, particularly during late dusk. This is when overtaking is prevalent, especially in situations involving encounters with unlit oncoming vehicles.
In response to this growing issue, ASAP Roadworthys urges drivers to routinely inspect their vehicles to promptly identify and address any lighting issues. Simple measures such as bulb replacement or wiring repairs can significantly reduce the risk of accidents caused by poor visibility.
As Queenslanders prepare for the approaching winter, taking proactive steps to ensure vehicle safety should be a priority. By heeding advice from experts like Arzu Subritzky and performing thorough lighting checks, drivers can help make our roads safer for everyone in Australia.
