Billionaire selling Carrara sports centre
Russian confectionery billionaire Dennis Shtengelova, who reportedly lost control of much of his Russian assets when they were seized last year by the Vladimir Putin-led Government, is selling his 11.85ha KDV Sports Centre at Carrara.
The Carrara property, which is spread across five freehold titles, combines the renowned KDV Sport centre and the adjoining 69-room Elite Gold Coast Hotel on Chisholm Road.
Mr Shtengelova bought the then-named Carrara Gardens Golf Course in 2011 during a holiday and then set about creating a world-class sports-training facility.
KDV Sport opened with fanfare in 2016 at an event featuring Olympic Gold medallist Giaan Rooney and tennis legend Henri Leconte. Since then, the centre has been a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
KDV Sport & Elite Gold Coast Hotel has now been placed on the market through Roland Evans and Angus Cottrell from Canford Estate Agents.
The facilities include a fully lit nine-hole golf course, a multi-storey driving range, extensive tennis courts, as well as pickleball, padel, soccer, mini-golf, fitness and wellness facilities.
KDV Sport, which sits across Nerang-Broadbeach Road from People First Stadium, is licensed and boasts several function spaces while the adjoining hotel has four function spaces.
Marketing materials for the sale promote the site as having “diversified income across sport, hospitality, wellness, events and accommodation”.
The KDV Group is headquartered in Tomsk, Russia. The company produces 350 different types of confectionary and snack products in its 11 factories across Russia.
In October last year a Russian court ordered the seizure of the company after the court designated Mr Shtengelova and his father Nikolai as extremists because the company supplied Ukrainian forces with food and violated a Russian capital control law.
Mr Shtengelova is now believed to be living on the Gold Coast.
