Bird enthusiasts of all ages are invited to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's Bird Week, held from Sunday, November 10 to Saturday, November 16.
Bird Week showcases Currumbin’s 81 native bird species and includes interactive shows, educational sessions, kids’ crafting, and a bird photography workshop.
This year’s event features exclusive artwork by Bird Nerds, with 10% of proceeds going towards the Sanctuary’s Eastern Bristlebird Conservation Program.

Bird Week highlights the vital ecological role of Australian birds while raising awareness about the challenges they face.
According to Allison Beutel, Avian Conservation Specialist at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the Sanctuary’s focus is on educating guests on bird conservation:
“More than 200 of Australia’s species of birds are listed as threatened, and Bird Week is a chance for us to educate guests on how they can help, from what species of plants to put in their garden, to building nest boxes and providing birds with fresh water sources – every action helps.”
By the Numbers
7,300 birds: Treated by Currumbin Wildlife Hospital this year, a 1,500 increase from last year.
680 birds: Admitted monthly by Currumbin Wildlife Hospital for care and rehabilitation.
10%: Portion of proceeds from Bird Nerds artwork sales donated to the Eastern Bristlebird Conservation Program.

Beyond Bird Week, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary actively protects bird species, including running Australia’s only Eastern Bristlebird breed-for-release program.
"Here at the sanctuary, we work with 9 endangered species of birds," Beutel shared, underscoring Currumbin’s commitment to preserving native birdlife.
