Broadbeach intersection upgrade to boost safety
A $2.1M upgrade begins this month in Broadbeach.
What’s happening?
Essential upgrade works are set to begin this month at the intersection of Nerang-Broadbeach Road (Hooker Boulevard) and Sunshine Boulevard in Broadbeach.
The project will upgrade traffic signals, road lighting, and underground cabling to improve reliability and reduce maintenance needs. Pedestrian kerb ramps will also be reconstructed as part of the works.
One of Broadbeach’s busiest intersections, located near Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and the Broadbeach Library, will remain operational throughout construction, with the single-lane overpass from Hooker Boulevard into Sunshine Boulevard staying open.
Why it matters
The upgrade aims to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the intersection by replacing aging electrical infrastructure and improving lighting and pedestrian facilities. The Queensland Government’s $2.1 million investment will help maintain safety, reduce ongoing maintenance costs, and improve traffic functionality for all users.
Local impact
During construction, changed traffic conditions will apply. These include temporary lane closures, stop/slow control measures, and reduced speed limits. Motorists are encouraged to take care when travelling through the area.
The project is expected to take approximately three months to complete, depending on weather conditions, contractor availability, and site conditions.
