Cash splash makes surf safer
A big splash of cash is heading to the Gold Coast’s essential Surf Lifesaving Clubs.
The State Government has announced a 10-year $125 million funding package for the State’s surf clubs.
All clubs will receive between $22,500 and $82,000 this financial year.
“The record $125 million investment in Surf Life Saving Queensland is the biggest in the nation,” said Minister for Police and Community Safety, Mark Ryan.
The funding will support Surf Life Saving Queensland’s vital service and help save lives on Queensland beaches.
More than 35,000 Queenslanders are volunteer members of a surf lifesaving club, and more than 462,000 are members of an affiliated supporters club.
It’s hoped the boost will help grow volunteer and club numbers even further.
Surf Life Saving Queensland CEO Dave Whimpey said he welcomed the historic funding package.
“The 10-year funding agreement provides security and sustainability so our lifesavers can focus on doing what they do best—saving lives,’’ said Mr Whimpey.
“Every surf club in Queensland will benefit from this record investment in surf life-saving. “
