Charges laid over one-punch attack
A 20-year-old Lismore man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery after a one-punch attack on New Years Day outside Pacific Fair Shopping Centre.
Police say that just before 6 am, on January 1, a 44-year-old Carrara man was at a bus stop, outside the shopping centre on Hooker Boulevard, when he was approached by a man on a bicycle.
The man hopped off his bicycle and then punched the 44-year-old to the head from behind, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.
The attacker then searched through the 44-year-old’s pockets before fleeing.
The 44-year-old sustained significant head injuries and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in intensive care.
Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch investigated the attack, leading to the arrest of the 20-year-old Lismore man.
