1. One Big Thing: Local business invited to major procurement program for Olympic-sized opportunity
What’s Happening: The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games have launched a $2.5 billion procurement program, inviting local Queensland businesses to tender for contracts across tech, events, signage, research and more.
Why It Matters: A new Supplier Portal is now live, with regional “Meet the Buyer” events kicking off next month and into 2026.
It is a rare opportunity for Gold Coast and Queensland businesses in particular to secure long-term, high-profile work ahead of the Games, driving economic benefits well beyond the finish line.
By the Numbers:
Several hundred contracts are expected to go out between now and 2032, worth a massive $2,500,000,000.00
80% of the $15.5 million spent to date has gone to local suppliers
1,100+ people attended the in-person event, and 400 virtual attendees attended the launch
50 EOI packages were unveiled, covering major critical work programs that spanned technology, temporary venues, market research, signage, and event production.
Local Impact: Gold Coast firms in events, marketing, tech and logistics are primed to bid, given the region’s strong small business base, aligning with 2032’s local-inclusive strategy.
Rings of Opportunity: Registering on the new portal is key, with expressions of interest already open.
What The People Say: Brisbane 2032 President, Andrew Liveris, launched the program, announcing that more than $2.5 billion across hundreds of procurement contracts would be available from the Organising Committee in the lead-up to 2032, to be released in waves over the coming years.
“Brisbane 2032 is officially open for business. Procuring the right goods, services and people will be critical to our success in 2032 and I’m determined to ensure our local Queensland and Australian businesses get a healthy slice of the procurement pie,” Mr Liveris said.
Paris 2024 Organising Committee’s Chief Finance and Human Resources Officer, Fabrice Lacroix, delivered the keynote speech for the event, explaining the opportunity the Games delivered to French businesses last year.
“85 per cent of our suppliers were French, and almost 80 per cent of suppliers were small to medium sized businesses,” Mr Lacroix said.
What To Look For Next: Cairns will be hosting the first “Meet the Buyer” event on 13 November, with details about tickets yet to be confirmed.
As soon as details are released, we’ll announce it here via our GC Minute newsletter, in addition to additional events that will travel throughout Queensland in 2026.

World Surfing Conservation Conference 2026 set for Gold Coast
What’s happening?
Early bird tickets are now available to register online for the World Surfing Conservation Conference (WSCC) 2026 at Southern Cross University’s Gold Coast Campus from 16–19 February 2026. The conference coincides with Gold Coast World Surfing Reserve’s 10th anniversary as the 8th World Surfing Reserve (2016–2026).
The inaugural WSCC 2026 is a four-day conference presenting an extensive program of world-class experts in ocean conservation, surfing tourism, coastal engineering, and wellness themes.
3. Former mega Miami resort to be transformed
By Marshall Hall
What’s Happening: A former beachfront resort in Miami is set to be transformed into a glamorous low-rise apartment complex designed by one of the region’s leading architecture firms.
Why It Matters: The former Nobby’s Outlook resort, which would turn 60 next year since being built, is being reimagined as “Nalu”, a four-storey luxury apartment development designed by local firm BDA Architecture.
By the Numbers:
7,238sqm is the size of the block to be redeveloped
46 luxury apartments over four levels will be built, with 137 basement car spaces plus 8 for visitors
There will be 11 penthouses with private rooftop pools, spas and terraces
Local Impact: Originally built in 1996 and renamed Nalu in 2018 after a $23.75 million purchase by Melbourne toy exec Paul Solomon (who owned Moose Toys), the site has now changed hands for $70 million.
Monaco Property Group’s acquisition and redevelopment approval by the City of Gold Coast signals a confident push into Miami’s luxury coastal market, with BDA Architecture leading the design transformation.
