From novice to notable: The Doyles Art Award entries are open
What started as a small community event in Mudgeeraba has now grown into the prestigious Doyles Art Award and is celebrating its 20th year in 2024. Colloquially known as ‘The Doyles’, this annual Australian representational fine art award and exhibition is open to all artists residing in Australia and boasts a prize pool of over $30,000.
Entries opened on Friday 1 March and closed at 5 pm on Friday 24 May 2024.
If you have a love of landscapes, can add soul to still life, or feel your fate lies with figurative, then this could be the art exhibition and prize for you. Past winners have gone on to secure gallery representation and win major national and international art prizes.
The entry categories include Landscape, Figurative, Still Life, Junior, and All Abilities, with most of the prize money going to the Landscape category, as this was what the awards’ namesake, d’Arcy Doyle was famous for. There is also a People’s Choice winner chosen by the visitors to the exhibition over its 11-day run.
The major prize winners will be chosen by a high-profile panel of professionals, including Susi Muddiman, OAM - Director at HOTA, Natasha Edwards - Director at SWELL Sculpture Festival, and Hobie Porter, a renowned Australian landscape painter.
This year, The Doyles exhibition will be held at Firth Park Community Centre in the heart of Mudgeeraba from 27 June to 7 July. The event is completely volunteer-run, and visitors can view the exhibition for free. This writer highly recommends visiting the many wonderful surrounding eateries and shops during your visit to the picturesque Mudgeeraba village.
