1. One Big Thing: Cableway project on Crisafulli’s wish list
By Marshall Hall
What’s Happening: Queensland State Premier David Crisafulli has backed the development of the proposed Gold Coast cableway this week in announcing the Queensland Government’s Destination 2045 project, a sweeping 20-year tourism blueprint aimed at doubling Queensland’s visitor spend and preparing the Gold Coast for its Olympic glow-up.
Why It Matters: The proposal, long backed by Mayor Tom Tate, signals the State Government’s commitment to turning the Gold Coast, including the hinterland, into a world-class eco-tourism hub.
But, the announcements haven’t been without sparking backlash from conservation groups.
By the Numbers
$84 billion: Target visitor expenditure in Queensland by 2045, double current levels
270,000+: Queensland jobs already supported by tourism, with plenty of jobs to be created
$115 million: Daily visitor spend already flowing into the state economy
Local Impact: Under the full Destination 2045 plan, Springbrook National Park would receive major upgrades and the Gold Coast would host more mega events (such as the AFC Women’s Asia Cup in 2026) in the lead up to 2032 and beyond.
What The People Say
“We are investing in what works, and will develop new tourism opportunities and create local jobs.” — said Premier David Crisafulli
“Springbrook and the hinterland is the green behind the gold.” —Minister Ros Bates

Tribute sculpture in Mexico honours fallen Australian surfers and brothers
What’s happening: A deeply moving sculpture has been unveiled at Punta San José, a popular surf break in Baja California, Mexico, honouring the lives of Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad. The three were tragically killed one year ago during a weekend surf trip.

3. Coast house prices rise among the fastest in the nation
By Marshall Hall

What’s Happening: A sure contributor to the City’s economic surge we outlined last week, three Gold Coast suburbs have climbed into the national top 10 for house price growth over the past decade, with PropTrack naming Miami, Palm Beach and Mermaid Beach among Australia’s fastest risers.
Why It Matters: Everybody knows how fast Gold Coast property prices are growing, but the latest data shows just how incredible the growth has been.
Confirming what locals already feel, our beachfront property market isn’t just booming, it’s outperforming nearly every other region in the whole country.
By the Numbers
Miami: up 11.9% annually, from $560K to $1.727M
Palm Beach: also up 11.9%, now at $1.77M
Mermaid Beach: from $1.123M to $3.4M
Byron Bay tops the list: 15.2% annual growth, now $3.5M
Local Impact: With three Gold Coast suburbs ranking nationally, property demand continues to drive long-term capital gains, especially in lifestyle-rich pockets near the beaches.
What To Look For Next: The full article below, and bargain buys in coastal towns and lifestyle destinations outside the capital cities, as it is clear this is where the growth is, and the market is only going one way..
