GC duplex named as nation’s best home
A Gold Coast duplex has been named Australia’s Home of the Year.
The Housing Industry Association has named the hilltop Miami home known as Cloudbreak as the winner of the 2026 HIA Australian Home of the Year Award.
The award is the highest residential building award bestowed each by the HIA.
The five-level home built by Gold Coast builder Mactech Constructions on top of a hill at Miami also won the HIA Australian Townhouse of the Year.
Meanwhile, long-time Gold Coast developer Villaworld Homes by AVID Property Group won the HIA Australian Professional Major Builder Award.
Villaworld was recognised for its consistent delivery and customer-focused approach. Celebrating its 38th year, Villaworld offers fixed-price homes within master planned communities.
“We’re incredibly proud to receive the 2026 HIA Australian Professional Major Builder award,” AVID General Manager Housing Peter Wood said.
“This win marks the second time our team has taken home this title in the past four years and is a true testament to the consistent delivery and customer-focused approach we strive for.
“We’re grateful for this recognition from the HIA and the acknowledgement of the excellent work our team do every day to bring our customers dream homes into reality.”
The two Gold Coast companies were revealed as winners at the 2026 HIA Australian Housing Awards before 650 industry leaders at the prestigious awards ceremony held on the final night of the HIA 2026 National Conference at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The aptly named Cloudbreak is one half of a duplex. The home has a basement wellness retreat and cinema carved directly into the cliff.
Higher floors feature bedrooms and a master suite, giving way to open-plan living, before culminating in a rooftop terrace complete with pool, spa and helipad.
A ribbon of glass floor panels links every level.
HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin congratulated the 2026 HIA Australian Housing Awards winners and praised their remarkable achievements.
“HIA is committed to recognising the outstanding achievements and talent amongst our members,’’ Ms Martin said.
“The HIA Australian Housing Awards allow us to acknowledge winners for their skill and commitment to quality construction, design and material selection.
“The winning projects redefine what’s possible in terms of innovation; they’re setting new benchmarks for the industry.
