1. Experienced constables join the GC
What’s Happening: The Gold Coast is gaining six experienced constables after a Queensland Police Service induction ceremony in Brisbane.
The officers have joined through the Police Abridged Competency Education Program, known as PACE, which helps experienced police from Australia and overseas move into Queensland policing.
Why It Matters: These are not fresh-faced rookies. The new constables arrive with frontline experience in public safety, emergency response and community policing.
By the Numbers:
• 45 experienced constables were sworn into the QPS after serving in other police jurisdictions.
• 17 officers are going to the South Eastern Region, including six for the Gold Coast and 11 for Logan.
• Southport gets two, while Coomera, Mudgeeraba, Robina and Surfers Paradise each receive one.
Local Impact: The Gold Coast allocation will support some of the city’s busiest policing areas, from coastal and nightlife precincts to fast-growing residential corridors.
The new officers bring experience from Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Africa and Brazil.
What They Said: Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing said the intake would strengthen frontline capability across Queensland.
What To Look For Next: The new constables will now move into their stations across Queensland.

3. Tomorrow’s lunchtime lottery for the Socceroos
What’s Happening: Our Socceroos are facing Paraguay tomorrow at 12 midday, with their World Cup knockout path coming down to three clear scenarios.
Why It Matters: Following a cracking game one where we beat Turkey 2-0, before a less-than-preferred loss to the USA in our second Group D match, tomorrow’s game is critical to giving us the best shot at progressing into the later stages of the World Cup.
A win or draw sends the Socceroos through as second in Group D and into the Round of 32.
A loss likely still keeps Australia alive, but would push them into the messier third-place qualification race.
Zoom In: There are three clear outcomes.
A win means Australia finishes second and could face:
🇧🇪 Belgium
🇪🇬 Egypt
🇮🇷 Iran, or
🇳🇿 New Zealand
A draw gives us the same result, which is second place in Group D and a likely clash with the Group G runner-up (one of those four teams above 👆).
A loss leaves us third on 3 points, where qualification is still possible because 8 of 12 third-placed teams progress, with the current danger list looking like:
🇩🇪 Germany (Most likely)
🇫🇷 France or 🇳🇴 Norway
🇵🇹 Portugal or 🇨🇴 Colombia, as an outside
Local Impact: Gold Coast fans have proper places to watch it, not just a sneaky office stream. You’ve got:
RQ’s Robina Tavern is hosting an Australia v Paraguay World Cup watch party from 12pm Friday, with the match live and loud across its big screens.
The Gold Coast Sports Hub is also screening World Cup matches, with $5 tickets that reserve a spot and include a first drink.
For a bigger-screen packed out pub option, The Star Gold Coast Sports Bar is the GC’s 24/7 World Cup venue, screening the tournament live and loud from the opening whistle to the final.
What To Look For Next: Pumping pubs, packed-out bars and plenty of people turning a “quick lunch” into a proper Friday World Cup session.
Go, you good things 🇦🇺!
