1. One Big Thing: Gold Coast Real Estate Hits $1m Median Milestone
What’s Happening
The Gold Coast real estate market hit the exclusive million-dollar median club for the first time, reflecting the area's growing appeal and market strength.
Why It Matters
Crossing the million-dollar threshold marks a new era for Gold Coast property, highlighting its desirability and status in the Australian real estate market.
The city appears to follow very closely in the footsteps of big brother Brisbane up the road, given they only hit the $1 million median mark 18 months ago in 2022.
By the Numbers
$1,030,000: New median house price on the Gold Coast.
8.4%: The growth in median house prices over the past year.
$705,000: Is the median price for units, a 10.2% increase year-on-year.
Local Impact
Despite multiple rate rises and major economic challenges, it’s evident that some areas in the city have made it into 35% of the nation’s regional coastal markets, which continue to produce peak values.
What To Look For Next
With Brisbane appearing a few steps ahead on the median value front but places like Ocean Shoes and Byron in the other direction seeing some of the largest drops in value relative to peaks (down 25.5% and 24.1%, respectively), the market is evidently at a unique tipping point compared to what we have seen over the last few years.
Either way, these sorts of numbers only drive home the unfolding generational tragedy that is the current housing situation across Australia.
2. The Pacific Airshow Announces 2024 Comeback
What’s Happening
The Pacific Airshow Gold Coast has announced that it is set to return with a bang from 16-18 August 2024 after its phenomenal debut last year.
Why It Matters
This airshow was totally epic in 2023.
In addition to being one the most anticipated events on the calendar this year, judging by the queues getting to and from the show last year, it's also a significant economic booster for Gold Coast local businesses.
By the Numbers
250,000: Attended the three-day spectacle last year.
$25 million: Generated by last year’s event for businesses.
110,000: Visitor nights booked in 2023 for the weekend that had accommodation businesses happy.
Local Impact
The event entertains and invigorates the local economy, showcasing the Gold Coast as a vibrant events destination and benefitting the hospitality and tourism sectors.
Forward Thrust
This year’s airshow is set to outdo its predecessor, promising to be an unforgettable experience and solidifying the Gold Coast's status as a leading events hub.
What The People Say
Kevin Elliott: "We’re aiming to make this airshow an even more breath-taking experience this year in 2024."
Tom Tate: "The airshow is back and will be bigger and better than before!"

3. The Endless Summer Turns 60
What’s Happening
Bruce Brown's 'The Endless Summer', the classic and timeless surf movie encapsulating the spirit of surfing and adventure now for generations, just turned 60 years old.
Why It Matters
From a piece of media that has likely served as the inspiration for millions of surf trips, this film wasn’t just a surfing documentary.
It was a surf cultural phenomenon that transcended the sport and has shaped generations of surf travel over decades while also originally captivating a mainstream audience in a timeless way that lives on today.
By The Numbers
1964: The year 'The Endless Summer' first premiered at film festivals.
1966: The year of its wide release, reaching a broader audience.
3: Generations of surfers inspired by the film.
$50,000: The original budget to make the movie
$20-30 million: Has been made from the film since its creation
Local Impact
Here at home, 'The Endless Summer' resonates profoundly, embodying the surf culture and adventurous spirit that thrives amongst groms all the way up to the salty old sea dogs that still get out there.
What The People Say
