Gold Coast Light Rail assets go to auction starts $1
Lloyds Auctions is selling more than 600 surplus lots from Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3

What’s Happening?
Lloyds Auctions has opened an online sale of surplus assets from the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 project.
The collection includes civil construction materials, infrastructure equipment and industrial site gear left after major works. The assets were used on the extension between Broadbeach South and Burleigh Heads.
Why It Matters
For civil contractors and related trades, the sale offers a practical way to acquire usable equipment at competitive prices. These assets have already supported major infrastructure work and could now serve other construction or industrial projects.
Lloyds Auctions Chief Operations Officer Lee Hames said the sale reflected the size of the completed project.
“This auction is the release of a large volume of end-of-project surplus from one of the Gold Coast’s biggest recent infrastructure jobs,” Mr Hames said. “For civil contractors and related trades, these sales can be a practical way to pick up usable plant and equipment that has already done major project work.”
Local Impact
The auction gives contractors, councils and businesses access to surplus equipment that still holds practical value. It also allows assets from the completed rail works to be returned to active use.
“Once major infrastructure work finishes, there is usually a solid amount of leftover materials, equipment and site gear that still has real value,” Mr Hames said. “Auctions help get those assets back into the hands of contractors, councils and businesses that can use them straight away.”
By the Numbers
More than 600 lots of civil construction, infrastructure and industrial assets are included across the auction series.
The Stage 3 extension covers 6.7 kilometres between Broadbeach South and Burleigh Heads.
Bidding starts from $1, giving buyers access to equipment previously used during major project work.
Zoom In
The auction includes a wide range of project materials, equipment and general site assets remaining after civil works.
It is suited to civil contractors, builders, plumbers, councils and industrial buyers. Both online and absentee bidding are available through the Lloyds Auctions website.

Zoom Out
Gold Coast Light Rail has been built in stages over more than a decade. Stage 1 opened in 2014, followed by Stage 2 in 2017.
Stage 3 began carrying passengers earlier this month. The new section improves links across one of Australia’s fastest-growing urban areas.
What To Look For Next?
The first lots close from 10am on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, with further lots to follow.
Buyers can view the available equipment and place online or absentee bids through the Lloyds Auctions website.
