Gold Coast Marathon - Road Closures
Gold Coast police are warning motorists of upcoming road closures due to the Gold Coast Marathon. Here is the FULL LIST OF CLOSURES.
What's Happening
The event will be conducted over two days, Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, with more than 25,000 competitors expected to participate in this year’s event.
All events start and finish at the Southport Broadwater Parklands.
The course for the Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, extends south to Hythe Street in Miami, and as a result, many roads will need to be closed.
Why It Matters
Police have been working with the City of Gold Coast and Events Management Queensland to ensure the Marathon and associated events are conducted safely and with minimum disruption to traffic.
Motorists are urged to avoid travelling anywhere along the route over the two-day event due to diversions that will be in place.
Delays can be expected, and motorists need to watch out for competitors and fun runners.
“Approximately 100 officers will be policing the two-day event accompanied by 200 marshals to ensure public safety and to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses as much as possible during the event,” Senior Sergeant Des Hearn said.
