Gold Coast steps up for Dementia
More than 940 people joined the Gold Coast Memory Walk & Jog, raising $111,765 for Dementia Australia.
What’s Happening?
Gold Coast community members came together last weekend for the 2026 Gold Coast Memory Walk & Jog.
Participants tied up their laces and took part in support of people impacted by dementia.
The event brought walkers, runners and joggers together for a shared cause. It also encouraged people to get active for their brain health.
Dementia Australia CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan thanked everyone who took part, volunteered and raised funds.
“There was an incredible turnout from the Gold Coast community this year yet again, in support of the many people impacted by dementia across the country,” Professor Buchanan said.
“It’s been really moving and encouraging to see the community supporting Dementia Australia’s vital work by raising funds and awareness, as well as moving for their brain health - which research shows can help reduce our risk of dementia.”
Why It Matters?
Dementia affects people, families and carers across Australia.
Events like Memory Walk & Jog give people a way to show support in public. They also help raise funds for Dementia Australia’s work.
Professor Buchanan said the event also highlighted the value of movement for brain health.
That message made the day about more than fundraising. It was also about awareness, connection and healthier habits.
Local Impact
The Gold Coast event showed strong local support for people living with dementia and those close to them.
Community members turned up in force, giving the event a clear local presence.
Professor Buchanan also thanked the volunteers who helped make the event possible.
“The day was only possible through the hard work of our wonderful volunteers, who always make Memory Walk & Jog a safe, fun and memorable experience for everyone who takes part.”
