Gold Coast Titans to kick off multicultural festival
The State Government has partnered with the Gold Coast Titans to launch Multicultural Month at the Titans vs Warriors game on 1 August.
The Titans’ partnership is a chance for Queenslanders to celebrate Multicultural Month.
The Titans vs New Zealand Warriors NRL clash on 1 August at Cbus Super Stadium will be the official launch event for Multicultural Queensland Month.
The launch event will showcase cultural performances, player stories and community celebrations which help shape Queensland.
Minister for Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson said partnering with the NRL club would set up a great start to Multicultural Queensland Month celebrations.
“In Queensland, sport is part of who we are,’’ Ms Simpson said. “It unites people of all backgrounds and builds bridges between cultures, generations and communities – strengthening social cohesion and creating a real sense of belonging.
“The Gold Coast Titans have a strong connection with their community and a broad supporter base, making this an invaluable opportunity to share the message of inclusion, participation and community spirit with audiences across Queensland.
“The Crisafulli Government is committed to breaking down barriers for our multicultural communities and building a stronger, more connected Queensland where everyone has the opportunity to fully participate in our way of life.”
Gold Coast Titans Chairman Dennis Watt said the club was proud to support an initiative that celebrates the diversity and unity of Queensland communities.
“Rugby league continues to be a powerful vehicle to unite cultures, backgrounds and generations, and we see every day how sport can bring communities together through shared experiences and connections,” Mr Watt said.
“This partnership and our upcoming clash against the Warriors on the Gold Coast are an opportunity to celebrate the rich multicultural fabric that makes Queensland such a vibrant place to live.
“We look forward to using our platform to help promote inclusion, participation and community spirit throughout the month of celebrations.”
Multicultural Queensland Month features a calendar of sporting, cultural and community events, culminating in the Multicultural Queensland Awards.
