Live Gold Coast Housing Price Index
1. One Big Thing: Fairway to Affordable Housing
By Marshall Hall
What’s Happening
The Queensland Government has approved redeveloping the abandoned Arundel Hills Country Club into a residential community, with at least 650 homes planned, including 20% designated as affordable housing.
Why It Matters
With limited land available on the Gold Coast, this move aims to ease the Gold Coast’s housing shortage while preserving environmental and recreational spaces.
By the Numbers
650 homes will be built on the 765-hectare site, up from the initially proposed 380, which is a massive win for the developer
20% of housing is allocated for affordable options.
60% of the land will remain for public use and conservation at this point.
Local Impact
More housing for key workers, young renters, and seniors, plus enhanced local amenities and protected wildlife habitats, can’t be a bad thing in the current environment.
What The People Say
Minister Meaghan Scanlon: “I have stepped in after Council rejected a housing estate proposed for the site which fell short of the government’s minimum expectations to fully utilise this land for more affordable housing.”
