Grubs on the run after cowardly attack on pensioner

Four cowardly grubs wearing face-coverings left a 79-year-old Mermaid Waters man in hospital after they broke into his home and smashed him multiple time with a golf club.
The man had been sleeping on a lounge chair inside the Barcadi Court unit he shares with his wife when the four bandits broke in about 1.30am.
The four bandits demanded cash, attacked the pensioner, and then fled in the couple’s car. The pensioner was left battered, bloodied and bruised.
The man yelled out during the attack and this woke his wife, who was upstairs. She immediately called police for help but the four had escaped before police arrived.
The four escaped in the couple’s red 2018 Mercedes Benz Cla220, bearing Queensland registration plates “TRN000”.
The Mercedes was abandoned near Bangalow in northern New South Wales about 8.30am. It has since been seized.
The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment but had recovered well enough to conduct media interviews.
Police are appealing to witnesses or anybody who has video footage that can help their investigation to come forward.
