Just Cuts Stylist Courtney Currie Raises Funds for Blood Cancer Families
A Community Effort to Combat Blood Cancer
Stylist and salon owner Courtney Currie is leading a heartfelt campaign to support families affected by blood cancer through the World’s Greatest Shave.
A resident of Coomera and a seasoned professional celebrating two decades in the hairdressing industry, Currie owns three Just Cuts salons across Mt Ommaney, Burleigh Heads, and Coomera, employing 25 stylists.
In a bid to raise both awareness and funds, Courtney organised significant weekend events at Mt Ommaney and Westfield Coomera. The community's response was overwhelming.
"The support has been amazing," said Currie. "We had a woman who donated her hair and returned to shave her head completely because her grandma had leukaemia. Our stylist Tonisha Milkovic, who lost her father and partner’s father to cancer just months apart, also knows the importance of community support."
Rallying Support at Major Events
Courtney extended her gratitude to local businesses that contributed to the fundraising efforts, including Celebrity Ink Coomera, Unicorn Piercing Professionals Coomera, and others who provided vouchers and samples.
The culmination of her efforts was showcased at the sold-out Brisbane Lions game at the Gabba, where she shaved a volunteer's head in front of 40,000 spectators.
Despite initial stage fright, Currie focused on the cause that drives her passion.
Rising Incidence of Blood Cancer in Australia
Blood cancer rates in Australia have surged by 47% over the past decade. More than 140,000 Australians are currently living with blood cancer or a related disorder, and the country loses 16 people to blood cancer each day.
Unlike many other cancers, blood cancer lacks screening programs and preventive measures, making initiatives like the World’s Greatest Shave crucial for supporting affected families.
