Broadbeach local finally claims $15m jackpot
After ignoring calls, a Broadbeach man won $15m, marking another big win for a local chemist.
What’s Happening?
A Broadbeach man has become $15 million richer after winning division one in Oz Lotto draw 1642 on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
Despite multiple attempts to contact him, lottery officials only managed to confirm the win the following morning. The man, who initially dismissed their calls as suspicious, finally checked his ticket and realised he had won.
Why It Matters
This win highlights the life-changing impact of national lottery draws and puts the spotlight once again on local lottery retailers. It’s also a reminder to players to always check their tickets and answer those unknown calls.
Local Impact
The winning 50-game QuickPick entry was sold at Broadbeach Day Night Chemist, Shop 3–5, 2723 Gold Coast Highway. Owner Julia Clare was thrilled to learn of the big win.
“Really happy to hear it is a local. It's really amazing,” she said.
She recalled their last division one syndicate win in May 2023, where five players shared $1 million.
“They always say good things come in threes, so I'm sure we’ll sell another division one winning entry soon!”
By the Numbers:
$15 million prize won by the Broadbeach man, one of two division one winners in Oz Lotto draw 1642
260 division one winners across Australia in 2025 so far, including 60 Golden Casket wins
$295 million total won from 17 Oz Lotto division one prizes in 2024

The Gold Coast winner said he’d been playing for years but never expected this outcome.
“This is the best news I've had in many a year,” he said. “I was a bit sceptical when you first called... but then I checked my ticket.”
He said he plans to take time to absorb the win and “definitely do something for the kids and grandkids.”

Nationally, the Oz Lotto draw also created a Victorian multi-millionaire, sharing the $30 million pool. The last major Oz Lotto prize before this was a $50 million jackpot won in Burra, South Australia, in 2024.
Queensland has now seen three division one Oz Lotto wins this year.
What To Look For Next
With optimism running high at Broadbeach Day Night Chemist, locals might want to keep an eye on future draws.
As owner, Julia Clare said, “Good things come in threes.”
