Molly and Peggy saga draws to a close
The incredible social media saga of the battle about Molly the Magpie and Peggy the Staffordshire Bull Terrier looks set to have a happy ending.
Juliette Wells and Reece Mortensen have been fighting a David and Goliath battle with the state Government after the Instagram-famous Molly the Magpie was removed from their northern Gold Coast home because they did not hold the appropriate wildlife carer’s licence.
The government’s actions sparked an outcry from many of Molly and Peggy’s 700,000 social media followers and led to state Government officials being abused and threatened.
But the episode now looks to have been settled with Queensland premier Steven Miles announcing on X, previously known as Twitter, that a solution had been found.
"I've spoken to Reece and Juliette and reassured them that Molly is in great spirits and is receiving good care," Mr. Miles said in the post.
"This morning the Department has advised me that the couple can secure the appropriate licence. The team will work with them now to do that.
"It's good news and means Molly can come home very soon.
"I'd like to thank everyone who has written to me to share their concerns and advocate for Molly's return."
