Name the baby koalas
Bidders will have the chance to name one of the six new arrivals at the next Wildlife for Tomorrow Charity Cocktail Event
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary now has six new baby koalas and is inviting locals to bid on naming rights at the Sanctuary’s Wildlife Gala next month.
The six joeys, three males and three females, are part of the sanctuary's breeding and conservation efforts.
Koala joeys are born as tiny, hairless, jellybean-sized babies and spend the first six months inside their mother’s pouch before emerging into the outside world.
“At the moment, koalas are looking at becoming locally extinct by 2050 here in Southeast Queensland,” Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Koala conservation specialist Sarah Eccleston said.
“That’s terrifying and it’s not going to happen on my watch. Our breeding programs ensure a secure, genetic diverse population into the future and we’re heavily involved with the current Chlamydial disease vaccination trial in the local koala population, but we need help to continue our work.”
Bidders will have the chance to name one of the six new arrivals at the next Wildlife for Tomorrow Charity Cocktail Event to be held at The Star on Thursday, October 10.
