According to Sherele Moody’s Femicide Watch, 24 women have been killed by violence so far in 2025, and 127 in the past 16 months. This wasn’t a topic that got much attention during the recent federal election. Perhaps that’s because dead women can’t vote.
This Saturday 10 May 1pm, indigenous-led organisation What Were You Wearing will be hosting a national rally against violence at Pratten Park in Broadbeach, as well as many other locations across the nation. There will be informative guest speakers and a call to action for leaders, allies, and bystanders. Bring along your sign, an open heart, and an appetite for change.
If large crowds overwhelm you or you’re wondering what you can do next to help stop women being murdered, then come along to Be There Bystander training on Wednesday 14 May 6:30pm-8:30pm at Mudgeeraba Community Centre. This free interactive event will equip you with the tools you need to be a better bystander and do your part to prevent violence in all its sinister forms.
