New Gold Coast art gallery showcases unique works by people living with dementia
If you are looking for a free activity that is guaranteed to bring you pure joy, then head to Kirra Hills Community and Cultural Centre to check out the Dementia Art Gallery.
From now until Thursday 3 October 9 am-4 pm, the gallery will be open to the public, with a range of creative works on display, including paintings, drawings, craft pieces, sculptures, and upcycled materials.
With more than 10,660 people on the Gold Coast estimated to be living with dementia, the art exhibition is a great opportunity to showcase the talents of community members while helping to break down stigma against dementia.
Dementia advocate Osk Lowe is the carer for her husband Will, who lives with dementia and is participating in the exhibition again this year.
“It will always be such a joy for me to see what Will has created and for him to explain to me what he sees in his paintings. His art pieces are treasured by our family,” Osk remarked.
The exhibition is organised by Dementia Australia and supported by Cedar House Respite Centre in Mudgeeraba
