New marine training pathway opens at Coomera Marine Precinct
BIA and TAFE Queensland partner at Coomera Marine Precinct to connect students with marine trades training.
What’s happening?
The Boating Industry Association (BIA) has partnered with TAFE Queensland at the Coomera Marine Precinct to help create clearer pathways into marine trades.
The collaboration connects education with industry experience so students can better understand career options in the marine sector.
Students can enrol in:
The programs are designed to introduce students to marine industry skills while connecting them with employers and businesses operating in the Gold Coast Marine Precinct.
Students will also take part in industry-led learning experiences. These include gaining a Marine Card for essential safety skills, guided workplace tours across the Gold Coast Marine Precinct, and student prizes supported by Repco Commercial.
Why it matters
The marine sector continues to face a shortage of skilled trades.
Programs that connect education with industry help students understand the pathway from training into apprenticeships.
Participants gain practical industry exposure, recognised safety credentials, and clearer direction into marine careers.

Local impact
The Gold Coast Marine Precinct is a key centre for marine businesses and employment.
Workplace tours allow students to see marine operations and meet industry professionals.
The partnership also helps local businesses connect with future apprentices.
By the numbers
Two marine-focused Certificate II qualifications are delivered through the partnership, giving students an entry point into marine trades training.
The Gold Coast Marine Precinct, where students complete workplace tours, holds the highest concentration of marine businesses in Australia.
Two progression pathways follow the courses, leading students into Certificate III qualifications in Marine Craft Construction and Marine Mechanical Technology.
Zoom in
Participants will gain industry-led experience. This includes a Marine Card for marine safety skills, guided tours across the Gold Coast Marine Precinct, and student prizes supported by Repco Commercial.
The programs are designed to lead students into marine apprenticeships. Engineering students can progress to Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction (MEM30719), while automotive students can continue to Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology (AUR30520).
Zoom out
Industry partnerships between education providers and businesses are increasingly used to strengthen workforce pipelines.
Marine manufacturing, servicing, and boat building rely heavily on skilled trades.
Programs that combine classroom learning with industry exposure help prepare students for these roles.
