Night-time horse racing becomes Magic
The 2025 Magic Millions carnival will feature its first ever night race meeting in January.
Gold Coast Turf Club director Luke Henderson said the Magic Millions Gold meeting – part of The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival – will be held on the evening of Saturday, January 4, a week before the carnival’s main race day.
Mr Henderson said it would be the turf club’s third night meeting and pre-sales to club members had been incredibly strong.
The 10-race night meeting will feature the TAB Magic Millions Sunlight 3YO Plate, a slot race similar to the incredibly successful The Everest. The feature race open to all 3-year-olds, carries $3 million in prizemoney.
The Gold Coast Turf Club hosted its first ever night-racing meeting in October after the club installed state-of-the-art lights. Its second night event is to be held on Friday, December 20.
Mr Henderson said it was hoped in future years the Magic Millions Gold meeting could be held on the Friday before the main race day.
However, he said the track was not yet in a condition to handle two race meeting in two days.
Those who are unable to attend the night meeting will also be able to watch on free-to-air television with the 7 Network doing a deal to broadcast the event live.
