Olympic dream grows for netball in Brisbane 2032
Support builds for netball’s Olympic dream at Brisbane 2032.
What’s happening
Netball Australia has found a strong ally in Glucojel as it pushes to have netball included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
The collaboration brings together two Australian icons, the nation’s leading women’s sport and one of its most recognisable sweet treats, to drive the ‘Back the Bid’ campaign.
The partnership was launched in Canberra by Netball Australia Chair and former Diamonds captain Liz Ellis AO alongside Professor Trent Twomey, President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia (owners of Glucojel).
Both called on Australians across all walks of life to get behind the campaign and sign the pledge to support netball’s Olympic debut.
Why it matters
For Liz Ellis, the bid represents more than sport, it’s about recognition for a game deeply rooted in Australian life. “Netball is selling out stadiums in Australia and around the world, our national team is one of the world’s best, and netball is the most popular sport for women and girls in this country,” she said.
“With more than 80,000 people already behind us, we’re showing that netball is part of our national DNA. We’re honoured to have Glucojel’s support in uniting community netball and community pharmacy, and what’s more iconic than netball and jellybeans?”
Professor Twomey said the partnership aligns with the Pharmacy Guild’s focus on community health. “Netball brings people together, strengthens bonds and inspires young people. Just like netball, every community is supported by local pharmacies. This bid is about more than sport, it promotes women’s and girls’ health, being active and building lifelong relationships.”
