Ozcare plans major expansion of Labrador retirement village
Leading Queensland community care group Ozcare has lodged plans for a major expansion of its Ozcare Parkwood Gardens age care facility at Labrador.
The not-for-profit organisation, which was set up by the St Vincent de Paul Society in 1996, has lodged a Development Application with the City of Gold Coast to expand its existing Ozcare Parkwood Gardens (Labrador) community.
The planned development includes an additional 218 retirement community apartments on a 3.7-hectare site south of its existing facility.
Ozcare operates co-located retirement living and aged care communities in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Hervey Bay and North Queensland.
The proposed retirement community will feature 218 apartments and is expected to create more than 150 full-time jobs during construction.
The development will also help ease local housing pressures by enabling retirees to downsize, making more homes available to families across the region.
The proposed development would include a 30-metre vegetation buffer along its southern and eastern boundaries to preserve the site’s natural character.
Ozcare Chief Executive Officer Kevin Mercer said the organisation was proud to extend on its long-standing relationship with the Gold Coast community.
“Ozcare has had a strong presence on the Gold Coast for decades, operating four aged care facilities that support more than 650 local residents and provide employment opportunities for over 600 community members,” Mr Mercer said.
“We are committed to expanding high-quality retirement living options. Our vision is to create modern, connected communities where residents can enjoy independence, security and a true sense of belonging.
“The addition of retirement living to our Parkwood Gardens precinct will enhance the broader community and provide local retirees with the opportunity to rightsize while remaining connected to familiar surroundings.”
