Pilots walk away from emergency landing
Two pilots have walked away uninjured after making an emergency bellyflop landing at Coolangatta Airport.
The two senior pilots from Bilinga-based aviation trainers Air Gold Coast performed a textbook emergency landing in the Beechcraft 58 Baron.
The drama started at 8 pm on Tuesday night when the pilots discovered a problem with the plane’s landing gear. The pilots circled the Gold Coast airport for an hour to burn off excess fuel before successfully making the landing at 9 pm.
Footage of the landing has now spread internationally.
A spokesperson from Gold Coast Airport said the incident had no ongoing impacts on airport operations.
“A light aircraft experienced a technical issue with its landing gear upon approach to Gold Coast Airport last night,” the spokesperson said.
“The experienced pilots on board landed the aircraft safely with the landing gear retracted.
“This was a plane that was owned by Air Gold Coast. A reputable aviation service that offers schooling to pilots. It’s been in operation for more than 56 years,”
