Police release footage of driving rampage
Queensland police have released footage of a wild joyride through Gold Coast streets that led to the arrest of two men.
Officers started tracking a Skoda Octavia, allegedly fitted with false numberplates, from Dreamworld Parkway in Coomera around 11.10am on Tuesday. The vehicle had been reported stolen from a home in Commodore Drive, Surfers Paradise, on August 23.
Police, with help from POLAIR, tracked the vehicle until tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed twice in Upper Coomera.
The two male occupants dumped the Skoda at an Upper Coomera home and then took off in a Toyota Hilux.
Police tracked the Hilux southbound on the Pacific Motorway to Robina Shopping Centre, where it stopped in a shopping centre carpark.
The two occupants than fled the vehicle on foot.
Officers located one man, a 35-year-old from Parkwood, in the shopping centre and took him into custody around 1.12pm.
Another man, a 22-year-old from Helensvale, was taken into custody on Scottsdale Drive around 1.30pm.
The 35-year-old from Parkwood man has been charged with seven offences including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous driving and possessing dangerous drugs.
The 22-year-old Helensvale man has been charged with six offences including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of dangerous driving.
