Queensland Seniors' Month Grants closing soon
It is no secret that Australia has an ageing population and that this group of people need our support- which is where Seniors Month comes in.
Seniors Month is held during the entire month of October, with the purpose of promoting positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing in general. It starts on the United Nations International Day of Older Persons (1 October) and includes the National Celebrations of Grandparents Day (27 October).
The research shows that older Aussies tend to experience loneliness and social isolation at higher rates than other age groups, and this can lead to declines in mental health and overall well-being.
Seniors Month is an opportunity to show older people that they are valued and loved. It celebrates their contributions, whether it be as volunteers, in the workforce, as community leaders, carers, grandparents, or advocates.
Seniors Month grants are available to not-for-profits, charities, community organisations, schools, local government, and libraries to apply for up to $2000 to host inclusive events and activities to support older people throughout the month of October.
Examples include morning teas, gentle fitness classes such as yoga and water aerobics, local music concerts, dances, art classes, cooking classes, gardening, technology classes, and more. It’s an opportunity to get the whole community involved in senior-centred and led activities, for the benefit of everyone.
For more information and to apply for the grant, head to Queensland Seniors Month - Seniors Month 2024 Grants (qldseniorsmonth.org.au) before it closes on 15 April.
