Rapid Relief Team supports firies battling Springbrook bushfire
RRT stepped in to support firefighters in Springbrook, serving 105 meals.
What’s happening?
The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has stepped in to support firefighters battling an uncontrolled bushfire in Springbrook, in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Over the weekend, RRT volunteers from Brisbane served more than 100 meals to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews working around the clock to protect homes and residents forced to evacuate.
Why it matters
With firefighters working through the night, access to meals and energy was vital. Local Team Leader Stephen Taylor explained, “RRT got the call on Saturday from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), and we knew we had to step in. During disasters, firefighters can go hours, even days, without a proper meal, and that is where RRT is able to support, making sure they have the sustenance and energy to keep going in challenging conditions. RRT is more than happy to answer the call anytime QFES needs us.”
Local impact
The blaze, which threatened neighbourhoods in Springbrook, highlighted the need for both emergency services and volunteer groups working together. RRT’s timely assistance ensured frontline crews had the strength to continue their firefighting efforts.
