Sauce of inspiration: Grant win leads to expansion
Molendinar-based food manufacturer Gold Gourmet Foods has won a $210,000 government grant to further expand its operations.
Gold Gourmet Food sells its growing range of sauces, mayonnaises, and dressings through more than 500 retail outlets in Australia, including IGA, Spar, and Foodworks.
The family-owned business started life more than 40 years ago, but manager Mitchell Peers says it was the Covid-19 epidemic that led to the company expanding into the retail market.
Mr Peers said the company had started as a wholesale provider to restaurants and resorts such as The Star and the Covid-19 crisis left the company with a lot of stock and few open customers. “So, we quickly diversified into creating products for the retail market, and it has been very successful for us,’’ said Mr Peers.
The government grant through the Queensland Government’s Manufacturing Hubs Grant Program will allow the company to automate its sauce and mayonnaise production lines, Mr Peers said the grant would help the company evolve to the next level. Minister for Manufacturing Glenn Butcher said the grant would enable the business to expand its operations and workforce to meet rising demand both locally and internationally.
