Parkinson’s cases are expected to double by 2040, lifting urgency.
Zoom in
Dr Y Yang is a Senior Research Officer at the Mater Research Institute. With LMRF support, Dr Yang is formally testing a novel hypothesis. The goal is to enrich understanding of disease biology, including Parkinson’s.
“There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s and currently available therapeutics manage symptoms rather than targeting the underlying causes of disease.”

Zoom out
Parkinson’s is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s. More people are expected to be affected as the population ages. LMRF supports early career researchers who are driving change.
“We can’t wait to see the results of Dr Yang’s work and the difference it will make in patients’ lives.”
What to look for next?
Watch for LMRF updates on Dr Yang’s study progress and outcomes. Look out for post-event highlights from Lions Club of Carrara.
