Star Group acquires Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel
Star Group acquires Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel, boosting its Queensland hospitality portfolio.
What’s happening?
Star Hotels, a division of Queensland’s largest independently owned and operated pub and liquor retail group, Star Group, has acquired and settled the Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel.
The sale, conducted through an exclusive off-market, invitation-only campaign, marks Star Group’s second hospitality investment on the Gold Coast.
The seven-storey hotel, developed by prominent hotelier John “Foxy” Robinson, opened in 2020 and boasts 192 guest rooms and suites, the Runway Italian Restaurant, The Salty Fox Rooftop Bar, 10 conference and event spaces, a swimming pool, a gym, and ample parking.
It will continue operating as a Rydges-branded property.
Why it Matters?
This acquisition highlights the Gold Coast’s resilience and growth as a premier tourism and investment destination.
According to CBRE Hotels National Director Wayne Bunz, the “thriving tourism sector” and the hotel’s “irreplaceable location” were pivotal factors for Star Group’s decision.
This move reflects the group’s strategic focus on expanding its footprint in high-growth areas while capitalising on the Gold Coast's dynamic hospitality market.
Local Impact
The acquisition by Star Group, which already operates over 50 licensed venues, 115 retail liquor outlets, and six accommodation sites in Queensland, cements its commitment to the region.
The move reinforces the Gold Coast’s position as a prime destination for domestic and international travellers, with the hotel expected to generate consistent demand.
By the Numbers:
192 guest rooms and suites: The hotel features extensive amenities, including event spaces, dining, and recreational facilities.
50+ licensed venues: This acquisition is part of Star Group’s larger portfolio across Queensland.
Gold Coast Airport expansion: The ongoing development, including a retail village, health hub, and tech centre, bolsters the area’s appeal.
