Story tellers return to Mudgeeraba for the annual Somerset Storyfest
From March 25–27, one of the coolest literary events in Queensland will be happening in the Gold Coast’s own Mudgeeraba. This year, over 30 authors, illustrators, and storytellers from across the country will be at Somerset College to inspire literature-loving children and adults.
There is a real festival buzz to the whole thing, with the Prologue Party, Literary Lunch, and Long Table events, plus a packed program for kids aged pre-prep to year 12 and adults alike.
The event has a huge nostalgic appeal for this writer. The smell of the marquees, the sea of hundreds of different school uniforms, and lining up to get Paul Jennings and Andy Griffiths’ signatures are core childhood memories for me, as I’m sure they are for lots of kids who grew up on the Gold Coast.
Who could forget the Scholastic tent, Dippin’ Dots ice cream, and Dutch poffertjes smothered in butter and icing sugar? Oh, and getting to skip math class was also a bonus…
If you’re a Gold Coast parent who wants to foster a love of reading in your younglings, then this is the festival for you. I’ll see you there – I’ll be the one waiting in line with my kids to meet Emma Memma (formerly the Yellow Wiggle but prefers orange now) at the Prologue Party.
