SWELL Sculpture’s Waterlines makes waves in the hinterland
From 26 April to 6 May, the award-winning SWELL Sculpture will be presenting Waterlines, an 11-day artistic celebration of water, connection to culture and community at Hinze Dam, on the lands of the Kombumerri people.
As part of the Waterlines exhibition, there will be eco-art experiences, larger-than-life land art installations, artist talks, a long table feast in the forest at the Bower Estate, edible garden tours, a permaculture workshop, the Gold Coast edible garden trail, yoga, bushwalks, and soundscape kayak tours.
The excellent View Café will be open to provide sustenance for adventurous art lovers and hinterland explorers.
There is something for every budget, with most events being free, and prices going up from there. Aside from the obvious art installations around the dam, here are some of the Waterlines festival highlights:
Natural Spirit Soundscape Kayak Experience
A rare opportunity to head out onto the water of Hinze Dam, with the added bonus of it being an immersive guided listening experience with composer Corrina Bonshek. Tickets are $50 - book yours here.
Planter & Seedlings Workshops
A free hands-on workshop where participants can decorate recycled flowerpots and plant seedlings to take home. Materials include buttons, fabric, bottle caps, and more upcycled goodies. No appointments are necessary, available throughout the entirety of the exhibition. More info here.
Waterlines Silent Disco in the Park
This family-friendly event is an hour of dancing together in the Waterside Park at Hinze Dam on Saturday 27 April 3pm-4pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Grab yours here.
Feast in the Forest
An unforgettable culinary experience set within the Bower Estate’s magnificent pine forest. Entertainment includes live music, artist talk, and an optional horticulture tour of this Natural Bridge hidden gem. Tickets start at $220 and can be purchased here.
