Swooping into the spring school holidays
The flowers are blooming, the ducklings are hatching, and the magpies are swooping. Spring has arrived!
Term 3 certainly went quickly, and here we are once again looking for activities to keep the kids occupied for two weeks without school. Here’s our list of free and low-cost hinterland happenings to get you through.
Inflatable Ninja Challenge
Friday 20 September 9:30 am-11:30 am at Swift Park, Nerang
See how fast you can jump, climb, and slide through a 15-metre ninja warrior inflatable course.

Spring Equinox
Saturday 21 September 6:00 pm- 11:00 pm at Springbrook Hall
Mark winter’s end and the renewal of fresh energy on the mountain by enjoying live music by Dying Art, The Roberts, and local DJs. Free fluro face painting for kids, lazer lights, chai, cakes, focaccia, and good vibes. Kids over 12 welcome.

Night Markets
Saturday 21 September 3:00 pm-7:00 pm at Country Paradise Parklands, Nerang Mikky & The Other Guy live on stage, with free kids face painting, food trucks, an outdoor bar, classic cars and motorbikes. Come along to this kid and dog-friendly early evening event.

DJ in the Park with Retro Games
Tuesday 24 September 9:00 am-11:00 am at Firth Park, Mudgeeraba
Keep the whole family entertained with old-fashioned retro games with your very own DJ. Everyone will be doing three-legged races, egg and spoon, hula hooping through to iconic dance moves like the ‘Hokey Pokey’, ‘Macarena’, ‘Nutbush’ and don’t forget ‘Gangnam Style’.
Little Planters Workshops
Tuesday 24 – Thursday 26 September 10:00 am-1:00 pm at Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre
Little green thumbs can decorate pots, fill them with soil, and plant flowers. No booking required.

NaturallyGC Kids – Scaly Reptiles
Thursday 26 September 10:00 am-11:00 am in Mudgeeraba
Your curiosity about all things scaly and cold-blooded will come alive as you come face-to-face with some of our native reptiles including snakes, lizards, and turtles. Learn about their life cycle, importance of reptiles in the ecosystem and how they adapt to survive. Suitable for ages 4-12.

NaturallyGC Kids – Little Twitchers Bird Count
Friday 27 September 8:00 am-9:00 am in Currumbin Valley
Come along on a short-guided walk as we cast our eyes to the trees and skies for birds! You will learn more about native birdlife and even help identify the birds we see using binoculars, sounds and bird ID books. As we walk along, we will collect data on our clip boards and contribute to a mini bird survey that will be loaded into the citizen science platform Ebird. Suitable for ages 7-12.

Gold Coast Car Show
Saturday 29 – Sunday 29 September all day at Mudgeeraba Showgrounds
A whole weekend of family fun at the showgrounds, with cars, bikes, and trucks on display from many different eras. There will be plenty of food and drink trucks that would love your support.
Tickets: $50 for adults, $30 for 13–17-year-olds, kids 12 and under are free
DJ on the Green
Every Saturday 12:00 pm-3:00 pm at Cuddihy Park, Mudgeeraba
Enjoy the sounds of local DJs as you devour food from local restaurants. Brought to you by Lenny Pizzeria and Junior’s Deli.

Selfawear 5th birthday party in the park
Sunday 29 September 1:00 pm-3:00 pm at Cuddihy Park, Mudgeeraba
Live music, face painting, food stalls, and yoga in the park will be happening for the Selfawear 5th birthday party in the park. This event is all about connecting with your local community, so grab your friends and family, bring a chair or picnic blanket, and settle in to enjoy the fun atmosphere. Don't forget to grab your free T-shirt!

Mudgeeraba Parkrun
Saturdays 6:55 am at d’Arcy Doyle Park, Mudgeeraba
Unless the park is flooded, every Saturday about 200 runners, walkers, dogs, and babies in prams complete this 5km course together. We highly recommend visiting one of the local cafes afterwards for a well-earned treat!
