1. One Big Thing: McCormack Industries teams up with Digga Australia
By Marshall Hall
What’s Happening
Digga Australia, a major Gold Coast equipment maker, has merged with McCormack Industries, a Darling Downs business specialising in agricultural attachments.
Why It Matters
Despite maintaining independent operations, this merger strengthens Digga’s reach in the agricultural and front loader markets, enhancing its capabilities and local manufacturing base for its global operation.
By the Numbers
• With 250+ staff at Digga, they export 80+ machinery attachments to 50 countries
• All 37 McCormack Industries employees will continue to operate in their roles
• 40 years is the length of time that McCormack Industries, “the Front-End Loader People,” has been a family-owned business on the Darling Downs
Local Impact
Locally, Digga’s enhanced offering from the merger is a boost for the Gold Coast industry, supporting local jobs and surrounding regions’ access to quality equipment while enhancing global competitiveness.

3. Apartment pipeline set to dwindle
What’s Happening
According to new research from the Property Council of Australia, the Gold Coast faces a significant apartment shortage, with over half of its future projects at risk of delays or cancellation.
Why It Matters
A slowdown in apartment construction would worsen the region’s housing crisis, driving prices (believe it or not) higher and limiting availability.
By the Numbers
53% of planned and approved apartments are at moderate to high risk of delay or withdrawal.
The projected drop in the supply of new units could fall from 1,900 in 2025 to 1,400 in 2026, with only 50 units likely in 2027
4,500 new dwellings annually is what the Gold Coast needs to realistically meet demand
Local Impact
If delays persist, the Gold Coast could face increased housing shortages and a broader base of unaffordable property prices, impacting residents and investors alike.
Building the Pressure
As costs rise and infrastructure lags, the urgency grows for new planning schemes and investment-friendly policies.
