Trec for Rec brings inclusive sport, local athletes and community activities to Pizzey Park ahead of Brisbane 2032.

The Gold Coast’s largest inclusive recreation showcase and fundraiser will return to Pizzey Park Skatepark in Miami on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
Trec for Rec forms part of Go Gold Coast Month and supports the City of Gold Coast’s aim to become Australia’s most inclusive city. The event will bring people of all abilities together for a day focused on sport, recreation and community connection.
The program will include an inclusive course through Pizzey Park, interactive sporting activities and a ceremonial flame lighting. Local clubs, athletes and sporting organisations will also take part throughout the morning.

Trec for Rec creates a welcoming space where people with disability can participate alongside families, carers and supporters. It also gives participants the chance to learn more about accessible recreation available across the Gold Coast.
The event will mark six years until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, placing inclusion at the centre of the city’s celebrations.
“As we mark six years to go until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Trec for Rec is a chance to celebrate the spirit of sport, inclusion and community that makes the Gold Coast such a great place to live, work and play,” Acting Mayor Mark Hammel said.
Local Impact
Local sporting clubs and organisations will lead interactive “have a go” activities, allowing visitors to try different sports in an accessible setting. Participants will also meet local athletes, Paralympians and representatives from several Gold Coast sporting teams.
The event supports greater participation by connecting residents with clubs and recreation programs that may suit their interests and access needs.
“With inclusive activities, accessible recreation opportunities and a focus on community participation, this event reflects the Gold Coast’s commitment to ensuring everyone has the chance to be part of the excitement,” Mr Hammel said.
By the Numbers
More than 300 people with disability, family members, carers and supporters are expected to attend the event at Pizzey Park.
Participants can walk, run or use mobility devices along either a 5km or 10km course through the park.
The ceremonial flame lighting will begin at 9:50 am, before Trec for Rec officially starts at 10 am.

The ceremonial flame lighting will connect the local event with the countdown to Brisbane 2032. It will also represent the role inclusive sport can play in bringing people together.
A wide group of athletes, mascots and community representatives will attend. Division 12 Councillor Nick Marshall OAM will represent the City of Gold Coast, while Gold Coast SUNS mascots Sunny Ray and Skye will appear with members of the club’s AFLW team.
Southport Sharks mascot Mr Sharkey, Paralympic mascot Lizzy and the Australian Olympic Team’s Boxing Kangaroo will also join the event.
NRLW Titans player Jamie Chapman will attend alongside Broncos players Tara McGrath-West and Skyla Adams. Australian Paralympians Alexa Leary OAM and Taymon Kenton-Smith will also take part.
Grow for Gold athletes Ashley Bryden, Sarah Nicki, Maddie Kelton and Xavier Gilbee will complete the announced guest group.
“Whether walking, running or rolling while trying new activities and meeting local sporting heroes, Trec for Rec is one of many ways we are building momentum towards 2032,” Mr Hammel said.
