Actor Mark Wahlberg Brings Hollywood to the Gold Coast, Shooting New Scenes in Oxenford
Hollywood heavyweight Mark Wahlberg and a crew of hundreds of people have invaded Oxenford to film scenes for the action-comedy film Balls Up on the Coomera River.
Former journalist Murray Hubbard snapped Wahlberg in action this week at the Oxenford weir.
Balls, an Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance production, is expected to enerate an estimated $64.8 million for the state’s economy, employing about 250 local cast and crew.
The big-budget film is directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book, There’s Something About Mary) stars the 53-year-old Boston-born actor Wahlberg (The Family Plan) and Paul Walter Hauser (The Instigators). The screenplay was written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the pair behind the smash 2024 hit Deadpool & Wolverine.
Balls Up follows two American marketing executives who are fired for ruining a client sponsorship opportunity. According to Film Queensland, their drunken debauchery leads the pair to be hunted by every person across the country.
The movie is the latest in a growing list of film and television series to be made in Queensland this year. The list includes Ron Howard’s Eden, The Bluff, Good Cop/Bad Cop and Australian productions Dangerous Animals, Black Snow, Rock Island Mysteries and the Gettin’ Square sequel, Spit.
