Weekday Gold Coast line closure to disrupt trips
Gold Coast commuters face three days without trains from 13 April, as Translink rolls out major track closures.

What’s happening?
A major weekday track closure will affect several South East Queensland rail lines from first service on Monday, 13 April, until last service on Wednesday, 15 April.
Airport, Beenleigh, Doomben, Gold Coast, Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines are all listed as impacted. For Gold Coast commuters, the key change is direct: trains on the Gold Coast line will not run during the closure.
Passengers are being urged to consider their transport options, allow extra travel time and plan ahead.
Why it matter?
This closure will affect weekday travel across one of the region’s busiest rail corridors.
For Gold Coast passengers, regular train trips into Brisbane will be replaced by railbuses, which may take longer because of road and traffic conditions.
Detailed railbus information is still to come.
Local Impact
The sharpest impact will be felt along the Gold Coast line, where no trains will run during the closure period. That means people travelling from the southern end of the line into Brisbane will need to change their usual travel plans.
The 17 affected stations listed in the update are:
Varsity Lakes
Robina
Nerang
Helensvale
Coomera
Pimpama
Ormeau
Beenleigh
Loganlea
Altandi
Boggo Road
South Bank
South Brisbane
Roma Street
Central
Fortitude Valley
Bowen Hills
By the numbers
17 stations are listed as affected on the Gold Coast route, showing how far the disruption stretches from Varsity Lakes to Bowen Hills.
Six rail lines are named in the service update, which shows the closure reaches well beyond the Gold Coast corridor.
Six named project works sit behind the closure, alongside general track maintenance across the network.
Zoom In
There will be no trains at all during the closure period. Translink’s extended April update says buses will replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road.
Normal fares will still apply, and passengers must have a valid ticket for their journey.
Translink has also advised that bikes and e-scooters are not permitted on railbuses.
Zoom Out
The closure is tied to a wider package of rail works across South East Queensland. The six named project works in the update are:
Cross River Rail project works
Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Stage 1 project works
European Train Control System project works
Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project works
Loganlea Station Relocation Project works
Ormeau rail facility works
The update also lists general track maintenance as part of the works program.
What To Look For Next?
Gold Coast passengers should be ready for more service changes after Wednesday, 15 April.
Translink says the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will continue to be impacted by the April extended track closures, so the next service advice will matter for anyone travelling after this shutdown ends.
