Long live the Mudgeeraba Agricultural Show
The township of Mudgeeraba is known as the gateway to the hinterland, and the Mudgeeraba Agricultural Show is where the city meets the country every year.
Tens of thousands of visitors will descend onto the showgrounds during the last weekend of June to enjoy two days of woodchopping spectacles, animal skills, live music, craft competitions, delicious feasts, rides, and so much more – for the 94th time.
This annual event is organised by the Mudgeeraba Show Society, a dedicated and completely volunteer-run team of some of the most generous people in the hinterland community. Volunteers and community groups embody the spirit of the Show and make everything run smoothly for hundreds of stall holders, ride operators, animal handlers, and entertainers.
Last year I took my two young daughters to the Mudgeeraba Show for the first time, which was a full circle parenting moment for this Gold Coast hinterland born and raised mum. Here are the things my eldest, who is almost 5, enjoyed most.
Poultry Pavilion
With over 80 breeds of poultry competing in multiple categories, this is your chance to come and admire these feathery descendants of dinosaurs. We visited multiple times and even entered our Bantam rooster ‘Lord Farquaad’ into the mix.
Animal Nursery
Grab a coffee and bring the kids to see the baby animals. My kids sat down cuddling goats, chickens, and guinea pigs for such a long time, which was a peaceful little break for me.
Train Ride
Ditch the pram and jump on the train that takes you across the showgrounds. It’s the best way to get around.
Gold Coast Model Railway Club
Speaking of trains, this was another hit. The tiny village scenes and mini trains captured the imaginations of the young and old.
The giant inflatable Neighbourhood Watch owl
Every time this thing is out set up somewhere, my kids gravitate towards it. Have a chat with local Neighbourhood Watch volunteers about community safety while the kids stare at the owl.
Equestrian Events
We loved watching the majestic horses do their thing while eating our ice creams. So much skill and talent involved.
Fireworks
The perfect end to a day of delightful family fun.
Put on a pair of boots and your best hat, and I’ll see you at the Show on 29-30 June!
