👁️ Olo, the new colour scientists just discovered
Volume 112: Capsized on Cook Island | Anzac Day street closures | Farewell to GC's Mr Media | Tesla under attack and heaps more
Today's newsletter is 1,499 words, an 8-minute read.
Before the sun rises over the Pacific tomorrow, a majority of Gold Coasters will gather in quiet reverence.
From the hinterland down to Currumbin’s Elephant Rock, the sands of Surfers Paradise and to Coolangatta’s corners in Goodwin Park, thousands will stand shoulder to shoulder at dawn services and memorials, in the dark, quiet, and, potentially, rain, honouring the courage and sacrifice of our men and women who gave their all for us.
For me, it's an extra special day in that it happens to be my girls’ birthdays.
A day for remembrance, reflection, appreciation, and celebration.
Long live the memory of our Anzacs and the sacrifices they made to help make this place the best in the world.
We will remember them.

By Marshall Hall
What’s Happening: Gold Coast radio icon Ian Cousins has died, aged 77.
Why It Matters: From 4GG to Sea FM, from the Gold Coast Indy to major civic boards, Cousins’ four-decade career shaped the city’s media and community life.

26 years of those as its President
19 years were worked in top media roles across radio and TV
Local Impact: He was a driving force behind events like the first Gold Coast Indy and the city’s Commonwealth Games bid, making him a key player in putting the Coast on the map.
Legacy To Last: From boardrooms to broadcasts, Cousins lived and breathed the city he helped elevate with service as the:
Chairman of the Super GP events advisory committee
Chairman of the Gold Coast Community Fund
Board member of the Gold Coast Tourism Bureau (now Experience Gold Coast)
Member of the South Coast Fire Brigade

3. St Andrew’s student honours ANZACs
What’s Happening: St Andrew’s Lutheran College captain Heath McLachlan has returned from a powerful tour of the Western Front, where he honoured ANZACs by laying a wreath at the Menin Gate’s nightly Last Post Ceremony in Ypres, Belgium.
Why It Matters: Heath’s journey bridges past and present, offering a personal connection to Australia’s wartime history while reinforcing the enduring value of remembrance.
By the Numbers
295,000+ Australians served on the Western Front
Around 46,000 lost their lives there
The Last Post has sounded at Menin Gate nightly since 1928 (excluding WWII)
Local Impact: His role in the ceremony brings the ANZAC legacy home to the Gold Coast, inspiring local students to engage with history beyond the classroom.
History Walks in New Boots: Heath walked trenches where ANZACs once fought, giving new weight to the poppies we wear and the silence we keep.
What The People Say
“It was an incredible honour to represent my school,” Heath said.
“These stories aren’t just history – they’re our heritage,” added battlefield historian Mat McLachlan.

ANZAC DAY
Lest we forget
Our Diggers didn’t die for us to obsess over our selfish desires, worship money and become complacent to the very real needs of the world!
Our Diggers fought, suffered and were sacrificed for the entire world to know true peace above all else. To build goodwill and trust between nations so all future generations forever respect this sacrifice by always respecting each other.
ALL humanity; all countries, races and cultures embraced within the goodwill of our hearts, leads to peace on earth.
May minds of goodwill everywhere meet in a spirit of cooperation.
May forgiveness on the part of all be the keynote on this day.
Let the Spirit of Peace be spread abroad
Make it real? Then place your hand on your chest, smile, take a deep breath and breathe out love to ALL our brothers and sisters the world over. For this moment our Diggers are alive, and so is all that they fought for.
May peace start with us! May goodwill govern your heart, your mind and your actions.
So let it be, and help us to do our part.
