1. One Big Thing: Tallebudgera Surf Club receives big facelift
By Marshall Hall
What’s Happening: Tallebudgera Surf Life Saving Club is getting close to finishing a big revamp of its change rooms, just in time for the summer patrol season.
Why It Matters: Courtesy of the State Government, these upgraded facilities are key to supporting surf lifesavers, boosting volunteer retention, and keeping one of the Gold Coast’s busiest beaches safe for all.
By the Numbers:
$150,000 has been funded through the State’s $250 million Games On! program.
Patrol season runs from mid-September to April annually.
These facilities will accommodate all ages: Nippers to masters and those in surf sports programs.
Local Impact: Designed to be completed before the start of its beach summer, this facelift supports not just patrols, but the club’s vital role in surf sports training and community engagement.
With summer crowds on the horizon, these new facilities are a timely boost, ensuring our coast is protected by surf lifesavers who have what they need to do the job.
What The People Say:
Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said Surf Life Savers deserved the best facilities that could be provided.
“Queensland’s Surf Life Savers commit their time, skill, determination and courage to protect their community,’’ Mr Mander said.
“The changerooms will support the sport program here, which is helping to hone the skills required on patrol as well as guiding and training our future Surf Life Savers.
Member for Burleigh Hermann Vorster said the upgraded facilities would mean a safer Gold Coast community.
“We committed $150,000 to deliver these renovations and help the Tallebudgera Surf Life Savers,” Mr Vorster said.

3. Hedges Avenue mansion sells for $27.5 million
What’s Happening: A luxury beachfront property on Hedges Avenue in Mermaid Beach, better known as Millionaire’s Row, has quietly sold for a whopping $27.5 million in a private, off-market deal.
Why It Matters: Sold by fitness identity Maria Hoy, the sale cements Hedges Avenue’s status as the epicentre of ultra-premium Gold Coast real estate, with more record-breaking deals undoubtedly being considered after seeing such a selling price.
By the Numbers:
It’s the second-highest price ever publicly recorded for a home on the GC
An 80% value increase is reflected in the price since its last sale in 2021 (Still, then, at a massive $15.299 million).
$3.4 million is the median Mermaid Beach house price at present
Just 607 sqm is the size of the block, with 15 metres of direct Mermaid Beach access
Local Impact: Designed by B.E Architecture and spanning 607sqm, the five-bedroom home has direct beach access and a design pedigree, but it’s not even the priciest pad on the block.
What makes the sale even more remarkable is that Gold Coast real estate agent Amir Mian managed to sell the home even though it was not officially on the market.
What The People Say:
“I think Hedges Avenue is one area on the Gold Coast which will attract those even higher-level prices.”
“The property was not the most valuable home in the street.”
